S. Korean History Texts to Recognize N. Korean Power Succession

New North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will now appear in South Korean history text books for middle and high school students.

Since the death of Kim Jong-il in December, the Education Ministry in Seoul has requested through non-profit company Korea Authorized Textbook that publishers accordingly make revisions.

Eleven history texts that will be used at middle and high schools nationwide from March will state that a third-generation power succession took place in North Korea as Kim Jong-un took control from his late father.

The books will now refer to Kim Jong-il in the past tense and list him as deceased.
