N.Korean, French Orchestras to Hold Joint Performance in Paris

A North Korean orchestra and a French orchestra will hold a joint performance in Paris next month under the direction of South Korean maestro Chung Myung-whun.

Chung, who leads the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, told a news conference Tuesday that North Korea's Unhasu Orchestra and the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Brahms' symphony number one together at the Salle Pleyel theater in Paris on March 14th. He said the joint performance came at the invitation of the French orchestra.

Chung said despite his wishes, a joint performance between the two Koreas’ orchestras was not realized due to political issues, but the March performance will be a step toward that goal.

He added that the planned performance is meaningful as it involves musicians of the two Koreas and France, even though he will be the only one from South Korea representing the Seoul Philharmonic.
