N. Korea-U.S. Conclude Food Aid Talks

North Korea and the United States have concluded their two-day working-level talks regarding the U.S.’s food aid to the North.

The two sides met in the U.S. embassy in Beijing to discuss when Washington will provide Pyongyang with 240-thousand tons of food aid and how the distribution process will be monitored.

During the two-day meeting, North Korea asked for a prompt delivery, while the U.S. stressed the importance of securing transparency in the distribution process by deploying monitoring agents. Further information on the bilateral discussions were not revealed.

Washington's chief delegate to the talks, special envoy for North Korean human rights issues, Robert King told reporters on Wednesday that he believes Pyongyang needs to clearly understand that the assistance to be delivered are only for the North's vulnerable people, including children.
