Poll: Interest in K-pop Motivates Foreigners to Learn Korean Language

A survey finds that more than half of foreigners learning the Korean language were motivated by their interest in K-pop.

The Institute of International Education of Kyung Hee University recently conducted a survey on about 520 foreigners from 65 countries who are learning or have learned the Korean language.

The poll shows that 58 percent of the respondents indicate their interest in K-pop motivated them to learn the Korean mother tongue.

As for K-pop’s other effects on their lives, 19 percent said they took trips to South Korea, while 12 percent said they became interested in South Korean culture.

Regarding the charms of K-pop, 38 percent cited dynamic and stylish dance, followed by easy melodies and exiting rhythms.
