NK Says Preparations Completed for Rocket Launch

North Korean space officials say that all of the assembly and preparations for this week’s planned launch of the Kwangmyongsong-3 satellite have been completed.

The space officials in charge of the launch on Tuesday held a news conference, saying that the launch of the three-stage rocket will take place as planned as part of centennial birthday commemorations for North Korean founder Kim Il-sung.

China’s official Xinhua news agency quoted an official with the North’s Korean Committee for Space Technology as saying that the launch will not harm the North’s neighboring countries and the region.

Last Sunday, North Korea invited Japanese and American journalists to visit its rocket launch site to disclose its Kwangmyongsong-3 satellite and Unha-3 rocket.
