Russian Finance Minister Backs Jim Yong Kim for World Bank Chief

Russia’s finance minister Anton Siluanov is backing U.S. nominee Jim Yong Kim for World Bank President.

Siluanov said he decided to support Kim because of his qualities, experience and knowledge.

Former Colombian Finance Minister Jose Antonio Ocampo withdrew his nomination, saying the nomination process was based on politics and not on candidates’ qualities.

The Korean-born Kim is now only up against Nigerian Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the presidency of the international institution.

The next head of the World Bank will be decided during a semi-annual meeting in Washington by the World Bank and its sister organization, the International Monetary Fund, from April 20-22.
