U.S. President Barack Obama’s camp is waging a war of words with Republican front-runner Mitt Romney to win greater support from female voters ahead of November's presidential election.
In an interview with U.S. broadcaster CBS on Sunday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner blasted Romney for claiming that Obama’s failed economic policies have raised the unemployment rate among women. Geithner called the Republican presidential hopeful’s statement ridiculous.
At a recent campaign event, Romney said that 92-point-three percent of all jobs lost during Obama's three-and-a-half years in office were held by women.
Both Obama and Romney have been working hard to draw support from women, since Democratic campaign strategist Hillary Rosen criticized that Romney’s wife, Ann, has never worked a day in her life. Ann Romney responded to the remarks by saying she made a choice to stay home and raise five children, and it was hard work.
U.S. media report that the Republican Party is keeping a close eye on the female vote, as surveys indicate that Obama is far ahead of Romney among female voters.
