Japanese People Distrust Govt’s Nuke Policies

A Japanese daily says more than half of Japanese people distrust the current Japanese government’s nuclear power policies.

The Asahi Shimbun conducted a recent survey and found that 55 percent of the respondents oppose bringing nuclear reactors back online in Fukui Prefecture. Operation was suspended for a regular inspection, and only 28 percent of the surveyed support the reactors running again.

Seventy percent expressed distrust of the tentative safety standards for the operation of nuclear power plants, which were agreed upon by Japan's incumbent administration led by Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda.

Sixty-six percent said they don't believe the government’s grim outlook for power generated by electric power companies. The Japanese government said the reoperation of the nuclear reactors is inevitable, since there is a shortage of power.
