Travel business source says....the number of travelers, both Korean and foreign, visiting South Korea's main tourist resort this year is expected to hit a record high of 4.5 million. Tourists who had visited the island as of Dec. 11 numbered 4.31 million, up 8.8 percent from a year earlier, and that figure is expected to match the previous record high of 4.36 million registered in 1997. The presidential election next week may slow the increase rate but by yearend Jeju should have hosted 4.5 million tourists. The sources said...Foreign tourists who had visited the island as of Dec. 11 numbered 277,000. In particular, the number of foreign visitors has been on the increase because of the security problems in Southeast Asia and the hosting of World Cup soccer matches on the island in June. While honeymooners visiting the island decreased 32.8 percent from last year, family visitors rose 11.5 percent, group travelers went up 4.8 percent, student visitors soared 21.8 percent, leisure travelers increased 11.7 percent and golf vacationers jumped 23.7 percent.
