Unification Ministry to Expand Support for N. Korean Defectors' Settlement

The Unification Ministry says it will strengthen policies to help more North Korean defectors get jobs in South Korea.

The ministry said it will expand the hiring of North Korean defectors at public institutions and help them settle down in the country by linking job training with employment. It also vowed to increase education opportunities, such as corporate internships for adolescents.

A government official said the Unification Ministry reported its plans to the President during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The official added that Hanawon, a government resettlement center, plans to introduce tailored job training and employment programs.
