The Ministry of Defense said South Korea and the U.S. have agreed to jointly research and create scenarios of potential threats from North Korea’s nuclear arsenal.
The agreement was reached Friday during the inaugural session of the Korea-U.S. Integrated Defense Dialogue (KIDD) at the Pentagon.
Both sides also agreed to expand all aspects of their defense alliance by signing a space cooperation agreement to conduct combined space exercises and strengthen cyber consultative channels.
Defense bodies in both countries were scheduled to discuss a joint tabletop exercise to restrain the proliferation of nuclear weapons that will take place this year, after developing possible scenarios in regard to North Korea’s impending third nuclear test.
The two allies held the first tabletop exercise in November last year in the U.S. Through simulated situations, the two nations practiced responding politically and militarily to North Korea's nuclear threat.
