Anchor: The North Korean military has threatened to strike down South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and South Korean media companies for criticizing the North's celebration of the Korean Children's Union. Our Kim Soyon has the story.

Report: The General Staff of the North’s Korean People's Army says South Korea must apologize over recent critical remarks or face a military strike.

The North’s official Korean Central News Agency reported the General Staff’s ultimatum on Monday, which threatened retaliation against the South Korean president and media firms for criticizing celebrations under way in Pyongyang to mark the 66th founding anniversary of the North’s Korean Children's Union.

The General Staff said the South has been mobilizing media outlets, including the Chosun Ilbo, JoongAng Ilbo and Dong-A Ilbo and broadcasters KBS, CBS, MBC and SBS, since last Tuesday to denounce the celebration. It said the South is engaged in a new wicked act to disparage the North’s supreme dignity.

The staff said the South belittled the political gala of three-million North Korean students and youths by calling it a dog and pony show resemblant of the Hitler Youth, a paramilitary organization of the Nazi Party.

North Korea continued to say that on hearing news about the critical reports in the South, its Army, Navy and Air Force requested to settle the matter with arms.

In the ultimatum, the North said its military has entered map coordinates of the three South Korean newspapers and four broadcasters mentioned above and could strike their headquarters.

North Korea said its military's wrath has erupted and it will wage a retaliatory, merciless sacred war of its own style if the South recklessly challenges it.
