Pres. Lee to Attend Ceremony Commemorating 2nd Yeongpyeong Battle

President Lee Myung-bak is scheduled to take part in a ceremony at the Navy’s Second Fleet Command on Friday to mark the 10th anniversary of South Korea’s second Yeonpyeong naval battle with North Korea.

After delivering a commemorative speech, the President will inspect patrol boats named after the six South Korean sailors who lost their lives in the battle to pay tribute to the deceased soldiers and express his condolences to the bereaved family members.

This will be the first time for a South Korean President to be at the event.

The ceremony will be attended by around three-thousand-500 people including family members of lost sailors and military and government officials. Participants will pay their respects at the cemetery, while commemorative videos will be played and a series of performances will take place as part of the event.
