Gov’t Approves ABU Head’s Visit to North Korea

The Unification Ministry says it has given the green light to a visit to North Korea by Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union President Kim In-kyu.

Kim, president of the Korean Broadcasting System, will visit Pyongyang from Tuesday through Thursday to discuss the airing of the 2012 London Olympic Games for North Koreans and cooperation in sports broadcasting with North Korea’s Radio and Television Broadcasting Committee, a member of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

The ministry said it has approved Kim’s visit, as North Korea invited the ABU to discuss the broadcasting of the London Olympic Games.

It added that Kim is visiting North Korea as the head of the ABU and he will not convey the South Korean government’s message to the North. The ministry added that inter-Korean exchanges in broadcasting are not on the agenda for Kim’s discussions with North Korea.
