N.Korean Media Broadcasts London Olympics

North Korean media have swiftly covered the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games and the winning of the North’s first gold medal at the international sporting event.

The Korean Central Television broadcasted on Sunday night major scenes of the opening ceremony and aired recorded footage of the men’s archery and rowing events.

The North’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) also quickly reported on Monday that North Korean judoka An Kum-ae secured a gold medal in the women’s under-52 kilogram final event.

North Korea is able to broadcast the Olympics as the Asian-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) provided North Korea's Central Broadcasting Committee with broadcasting rights of the Games. The ABU and the committee reached an agreement on the provision last Wednesday.
