The number of foreign tourists to South Korea on a monthly basis exceeded a record of one million for the first time in July.

The Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry said 1.02 million foreign tourists visited the country during the month of July, beating the former monthly record of 970,000 in April.

More Chinese tourists visited South Korea than those from Japan for the first time, with 320-thousand from China in July. Japan accounted for 300-thousand tourists to South Korea last month.

The Culture Ministry said the total number of offshore tourists to South Korea would reach over ten-million by mid-November this year and over eleven-million by year-end.
