Domestic Movies' Market Share Rises to 47.9%

Domestic films continued to see strong box office ticket sales for the month of July, which is the peak season of the movie industry.

The Korean Film Council said on Monday that 47-point-nine percent of viewers watched Korean movies last month, up 15-and-a-half percentage points from a year ago, while foreign films’ market share decreased from 2011.

The number of people who watched Korean movies last month came to about 13 million. It is unusual that the number tops the ten million mark.

The council said that thanks to the success of domestic films, the overall number of viewers reached this year’s record of 20-point-95 million last month.
