The Korea-Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) said Friday South Korea's ranking for globalization has jumped from 31st to 28th, among 68 countries, whose combined population accounts for 85 percent of the world's total. KOTRA said Ireland took the top spot with IT-centered brisk interactions with the global economy, followed by Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore and the Netherlands, citing the January-February edition of Foreign Policy, a U.S. foreign policy magazine. The United States ranked at 11th. According to KOTRA officials, Korea had ranked 31st in 2001, but jumped to 28th in the latest study, largely boosted by the widespread use of the Internet.
