Domestic films attracted a record audience in August, which is peak season in the movie industry.

The Korean Film Council said on Tuesday that about 17 million viewers watched Korean movies last month, up 22 percent year-on-year.

The figure is the highest since the council began compiling related data in 2007.

Accordingly, domestic films’ market share posted 70-point-two percent last month, up one-point-two percentage points on-year.

The council expects Korean films will continue to see strong box office sales for the remainder of the year.
