N.Korea's Kim Jong-un Pays Respects on Founding Day

North Korea’s official broadcaster reported on September 9th that its leader Kim Jong-un paid his respects to his father and grandfather, who lay preserved in Kumsusan Mausoleum, in light of the 64th anniversary of the founding of the North Korean regime.

Kim had been accompanied by some of his top officials from the army and the Workers’ Party, including Vice Marshal Choe Ryong-hae, his uncle Jang Song-thaek, Vice Marshal Kim Jong-gak and General Kim Won-hong.

The broadcast did not detail whether Kim Jong-un’s wife, Ri Sol-ju, had been in attendance.

The broadcaster said Kim had received a report from the head sentry, with soldiers from the army, navy and air force in attendance for the midnight ceremony. Kim was reported to have walked around the hall where the preserved bodies lie and paid his respects.
