N. Korea Says Typhoons, Heavy Rain Killed 300 People This Summer

North Korea estimates that around 300 people died from typhoons and heavy rain this summer.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency reported the projected death toll Friday and said an additional 600 were injured or went missing between mid-June and the end of August.

The report added that typhoons and heavy rain destroyed or sank some 87-thousand homes and displaced around 298-thousand people.

The report said significant damage was done to farm lands, buildings and the water supply, and that some 50 mining shafts became submerged or collapsed.
