Cultural Heritage Administration Expands Nat'l Treasures List

The Cultural Heritage Administration has added volcanic columnar joints, a gorge and a waterfall to its list of national treasures.

Columnar joints in Yangnam, Gyeongju were registered as national treasure number 536 for their geological value. The fan-shaped columnar joints were created after magma cooled in diverse forms.

A basalt gorge and the Bidulginang Waterfall in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province were also added to the national treasures list. The gorge and waterfall were formed after the lava plateau of Hantan River eroded into Bulmu Stream.
