Plenary Session of ABU General Assembly Opens on Tuesday

The 49th General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has entered its seventh day in Seoul.
The ABU General Assembly kicked off its two-day plenary session with a ceremony on Tuesday.

President Lee Myung-bak said in a congratulatory message in the opening ceremony that the ABU and broadcasting companies in the Asia-Pacific region should lead the world’s cultural development in the age of borderless media.

The plenary session adopted a declaration, urging the governments of member countries to allocate surplus analogue frequency bands that result from digitalization of broadcasting to the terrestrial broadcasters first.

The top twenty-two TV and radio crews from the Asia-Pacific region were presented with awards at a ceremony held at KBS Hall on Tuesday.

The 49th ABU General Assembly will close on Wednesday with debates and panel sessions.
