North Korea’s official news agency reported Saturday that its leader Kim Jong-un had inspected Unit 1973 of the Korean People’s Army (KPA).

The report cited Kim as saying that his father and grandfather had placed great importance on the unit and that it was most trusted by North Korea’s powerful Workers’ Party. Kim also said his inspection of the unit had a “profound meaning.”

The North Korean leader said the unit has an important mission to “conquer the strongholds of the enemy.” He added “once a war breaks out, the unit should storm the heart of the enemies in a flash to strike and destroy the targeted military installations and reactionary ruling institutions of the puppet regime at a lightning speed.”

The news agency said Kim’s deceased father, Kim Jong-il had also inspected the unit on May 23, 2003.
