An international meeting will be held in South Korea's Gwangju City in June to deliberate on whether to enlist a 16th-century war diary on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register.
The war diary "Nanjung Ilgi" was written by the famed Korean admiral Yi Sun-sin.
The Cultural Heritage Administration in Seoul says the eleventh meeting of the International Advisory Committee opening June 18th in Gwangju will hold deliberations on the diary and documents relating to the Korean "Saemaeul or New Community Movement," which South Korea requested for inclusion on the Memory of the World Register.
The committee comprises experts who pre-examine nominations for the register. Articles approved at the meeting have a very high chance of winning official designation.
South Korea currently has nine heritage items on the Memory register including "hunminjeongeum," the original manuscript of the Korean alphabet hangeul, and annals of the Joseon Dynasty.
