Centennial of Korean Immigration to U.S. Celebrated

A gala ceremony and various events celebrating the centennial of Korean immigration to the United States were held in Honolulu, Hawaii on Monday. Among the two thousand who participated in the ceremony were National Assembly Speaker Park Kwan-yong, Governor of Hawaii Linda Lingle and heads of Korean American associations. Exhibitions and cultural performances marking 100 years of Korean immigration are being held in Honolulu and other cities. On Sunday, a street parade took place in Honolulu with approximately two thousand participants including South Korean cadets. Meanwhile, President Kim Dae-jung sent a congratulatory message in which he paid tribute to all Korean Americans who had overcome hardship and adversity to establish a proud community in the United States.
