A large sewer pipe made of bricks assumed to have been built around 100 years ago was found in Soohadong, downtown Seoul.

The sewer pipe has a one-point-five meter diameter and is 300 meters long, with the upper part made of red bricks shaped in an arch and the lower portion a semicircle of concrete. The gate of the pipe is made of granite.

The pipe is considered an important cultural heritage that shows the transformation of Seoul into a modern city.

The Seoul city government and the Cultural Heritage Administration says the sewer pipe is the first modern pipe found within the four gateways to Seoul in the past, adding that they will do a close examination of the well preserved and rare cultural heritage.

The Seoul city government has decided to designate the sewer pipe as a modern cultural heritage after close examination.
