The International Olympic Committee has issued a bronze medal certificate for South Korean midfielder Park Jong-woo who was banned from receiving his medal over a controversial celebration following the team's win over Japan in the London Olympics this past summer.
The Korea Football Association says it received from the Korean Olympic Committee on Tuesday bronze medal certificates for the South Korean soccer team issued by the London Olympics organizing committee, noting a certificate for Park was included.
Park's certificate has his name on it with the words "men's soccer bronze medalist."
A Korean Olympic Committee official says the issuance is a regular administrative procedure of the IOC for medalists and whether the football governing body will penalize Park for his post-match actions is likely a separate matter. Following the win over Japan, Park displayed a sign advocating the Dokdo islets as Korean territory.
