An increasing number of French news media are using the name East Sea instead of the Sea of Japan. The Le Monde Diplomatique, a sister paper of Le Monde newspaper, used the name East Sea in its new year book, titled "Le Monde Diplomatique Atlas" while using the name Sea of Japan in parenthesis. Other French papers including Liberation and Le Figaro are also using the East Sea referring to the body of water between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.
