South Korea’s Defense Ministry is preparing for a contingency plan to protect South Korean workers at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea.
Representative Won Yoo-chul told reporters at a briefing Wednesday that Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin introduced such plans at a ruling party special committee meeting on South Korea’s security strategies against North Korea’s nuclear threats.
Won, who heads the special committee, quoted Kim as saying that the Defense Ministry is coming up with measures and has made the safety of South Korean citizens its top priority. The minister said that the plan includes military action and other measures.
Kim also said that South Korea’s military is capable of destroying 70 percent of North Korea’s front line military capacity within five days if the North conducts an additional provocation.
However, he added that the possibility of an all-out war between the two Koreas is low at this point.
