The military has detected no signs of an imminent launch from North Korea’s mobile missile launchers even though preparations for firing the missiles are complete.
This has led to suggestions that North Korea may be considering whether to accept the South Korean government’s offer for talks.
Still, the military has maintained its heightened WATCHCON 2 reconnaissance posture, keeping a close eye on North Korean activity. The military believes North Korea could launch missiles in the days leading up to April 15, the birthday of Kim Il-sung.
The South Korean and U.S. military are closely monitoring the East Korea Bay area in the North with spy satellites and Peace Eye surveillance aircraft.
Furthermore, military authorities said they are prepared against any potential contingencies. Among their preparations is the placement of Patriot missiles in key metropolitan areas including Seoul in case a North Korean missile needs to be shot down.
