Officials of companies in the Gaeseong Industrial Complex are urging North Korea to open the border for cars to deliver at least food and other needed supplies to their facilities.
The officials called on the North Wednesday at a news conference at the Inter-Korean Transit Office shortly after Pyongyang denied their request for a delegation to visit the complex.
Chairman Han Jae-kwon of the Corporate Association of Gaeseong Industrial Complex said the inter-Korean factory park was created under the trust of promises made by leaders of the two Koreas that guarantee free business activities.
The chairman went on to say that he hopes Pyongyang lifts the entry ban at least on South Korean vehicles so companies in the area can survive. He stressed that North Korea’s entry ban is also greatly affecting buyers who trusted the Gaeseong park.
Han also urged the governments of the South and the North to consider the difficulties companies are going through as they promised stable operations of the park, calling for a swift normalization of its operations.
