KCC Unveils 3 Key Policies It Will Pursue This Year

The Korea Communications Commission has unveiled to the presidential office three key policies it plans to pursue this year.

The commission vowed on Thursday in a presidential office briefing to produce fair broadcasting that the people can rely on, provide broadcasting and communications services that contribute to the president's goal of a creative economy, and improve laws on protecting users of broadcasting and communications services.

To create a fair broadcasting environment, the commission aims to stabilize the financial structure of public broadcasters and build support for the production of programs by the Educational Broadcasting System, known as EBS.

To contribute to a creative economy, the commission will create various bases for production for broadcasting contents and devise ways to promote the advertising market.

To improve the rights and interests of broadcasting and communications service users, the commission will seek to lay a legal foundation for legislating laws on protecting such users and boost dispute settling abilities to address individuals' rights violations.

The commission also said it will actively work with the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning to revise laws regarding permits for system operators, managing broadcasting frequencies and supervising a fund on advancing broadcasting and communications.
