Park: Waiting for Complex Normalization is Too Much Sacrifice

President Park Geun-hye says normalizing operations at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea would be ideal but that waiting indefinitely for this to happen is too much of a sacrifice for the South Korean people.

She made this remark during a Friday meeting with foreign affairs and security-related ministers. She said even though South Korea has put in a lot of effort to normalize the inter-Korean business park and proposed talks with North Korea, Pyongyang has turned Seoul’s proposal for talks down.

She also noted that the North rejected the South’s request to allow the delivery of food and medicine to the complex on humanitarian grounds.

She added that whatever decision is reached during the Friday meeting, the government should come up with support measures for the South Korean firms based in the complex to stand on their feet again.
