South Korean Workers Withdraw From Gaeseong

The remaining South Korean workers at the joint Gaeseong industrial site withdrew from the zone on Saturday after Seoul said it would pull workers in response to Pyongyang’s decision to reject inter-Korean talks.

A total of 126 South Korean workers returned south of the border in the afternoon.

South Korean workers who were in the complex for assistance from Korea Electric Power Corporation and KT are scheduled to return on Monday.

The workers who left Gaeseong on Saturday exited the zone 25 days after North Korea said it would bar all entry to the complex.

South Korea’s management committee for the industrial zone had informed the companies located inside Gaeseong of withdrawal plans late Friday night, after which the workers inside the complex had prepared to leave overnight.
