Written: 2013-04-29 16:01:01Updated: 2013-04-29 17:57:02

Ballroom dancers perform to the tune of traditional Korean music.

They dance the tango and waltz to songs arranged and played in a traditional Korean music style.

The first head of the National Orchestra Company of Korea, Park Beom-hoon, introduced the nation’s first traditional Korean tunes for ballroom dance.

He began composing these tunes after realizing that the beats for ballroom dance are similar to those of Korean folk songs.

Western instruments such as drums, double bass and cello were also used to supplement the sound of traditional Korean musical instruments.

The National Orchestra Company of Korea will record an album of the ballroom dance tunes while working to have them used at domestic and international dance competitions.
