A ceremony was held at the Jongmyo Shrine on Wednesday to report the restoration of the ancient gate Sungnyemun to the kings of the Joseon Dynasty.

Organizers lit incense and laid cups of wine in front of the kings’ ancestral tablets.

The restoration of South Korea's number one national treasure Sungnyemun was completed more than five years after a devastating arson attack in 2008. Sungnyemun was the main gate of a rampart encircling Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty.

The ceremony was attended by the master craftsmen and workers who participated in the restoration as well as Seoul citizens.

The restored Sungnyemun will officially open for the public with a ceremony on Saturday.
