The South Korean companies dealing with suspended operations at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex have welcomed an agreement on the return of seven South Koreans still at the facility.
Representatives of the South Korean companies on Friday praised the efforts of the seven remaining South Koreans when they heard the two Koreas reached an agreement on their return.
The companies, however, decided they will issue an official statement on the matter after examining details of the agreement, such as the payment of North Korean workers’ wages and the firms’ raw materials left behind at the complex.
An official said the agreement is fortunate, but South Korean firms will clarify their position on the matter after discussing the details hashed out between the two sides.
About 80 representatives of the South Korean firms based in Gaeseong on Friday held an extraordinary general meeting in Seoul and voted for the establishment of an emergency committee to cope with the Gaeseong crisis.
