KCC Chief: No Reason to Block Free Terrestrial Multichannel Digital Platform

Korea Communications Commission Chairman Lee Kyung-jae says he, in principle, supports the introduction of a free terrestrial multichannel digital platform.

Appearing on a KBS TV program on Sunday, Lee said there is no reason to block the introduction of such platform.

Lee’s remark comes amid assessment that the switch from analogue to digital broadcasting carried out late last year was not complete as the provision of multichannel services has not been realized.

Lee also said that KBS’s receiving fee must be raised and advertisements reduced in a bid to public broadcasters’ dignity and promote sound broadcasting.

On communications policies, Lee stressed that the commission will sternly punish those who engage in unfair transactions, including overly providing cell phone subsidies.
