South Korea’s fencer Shin A-lam won the gold medal after beating Germany’s Britta Heidemann at the Women's Epee World Cup in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

Shin beat Heidemann six-to-five.

During the London Olympic Games last year, Shin lost her chance at a medal in the women’s epee event due to questionable rulings regarding her match against Heidemann.

Shin will depart for Cuba to compete in the Women Epee Grand Prix and return home on May 27th.
