Ruling and opposition parties called on the governments of the two Koreas to resolve the suspension of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex on Wednesday, the 50th day since operations came to a halt.
Saenuri Party spokeswoman Min Hyun-joo criticized Pyongyang for sending fax messages to several South Korean companies with factories in Gaeseong, calling the North's move an attempt to put the companies at odds with the South Korean government.
She also denounced North Korea for the latest firing of short-range missiles. The ruling party spokeswoman stressed that North Korea should accept the South Korean government’s proposal for dialogue and make sincere efforts to resolve the operational crisis at the industrial complex.
The main opposition Democratic Party on its part leaned more toward urging the South Korea government to change its hardline policy toward the North.
Democratic Party spokesman Park Yong-jin said that the Gaeseong industrial park is a symbol of inter-Korean cooperation and peace and should not be closed down. He added that the government should stick to the principle of keeping economic and political issues separate and talk with Pyongyang to get the complex back up and running as soon as possible.
