China Says It's Committed to Resumption of 6-party Talks

China says it's unchanged in its position to work for the resumption of the six-party nuclear talks.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei confirmed the visit of North Korean special envoy Choe Ryong-hae to Beijing during a news briefing Wednesday and explained Beijing and Pyongyang will discuss the political situation on the Korean Peninsula and common pending issues during Choe's visit.

The spokesman said China has been working to bring peace and stability to the Korean Peninsula and make it nuclear free through dialogue and negotiations.

He noted Beijing’s unchanged will to promote the resumption of the six-way nuclear talks and to help bring long-lasting stability to the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.

Hong’s remarks indicate that China will strongly persuade North Korea to return to the multilateral nuclear talks during Choe’s visit.
