S. Korean Gaeseong Firms Respond to Foiled Visit Attempt

South Korean companies with factories at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex are growing more impatient over the facility's suspension following another failed attempt to visit Thursday.

Roughly 500 officials of firms at the troubled complex in North Korea gathered at the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Businesses on Thursday and called for the quick normalization of the industrial park.

They urged the governments of the two Koreas to allow travel to and from the complex, stressing they invested in the joint venture based on a 50-year inter-Korean contract. The officials noted their companies are facing a serious managerial crisis.

Roughly 200 representatives from the South Korean businesses had hoped to visit the North Korean city and check on their factories and properties there on Thursday. However, their hopes were frustrated, as Pyongyang rejected Seoul’s proposal for government-level talks.
