South Korean director Moon Byoung-gon's "Safe" has won the Palme d'or for Best Short Film at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.

Cinefondation and short films jury president Jane Campion awarded the best short film prize to the 30-year old Korean filmmaker's work on Sunday at Cannes, France.

The 13-minute film is a story of a gambling addict and a female worker of a gambling house.

"Blue is the Warmest Color: The Life of Adele" won the top honor, the Palme d'Or, at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The jury took the unusual move of giving the award not only to Tunisian director Abdellatif Kechiche, but also to Adele Exarchopoulos and Lea Seydoux who played lesbian lovers in the French film.

There were no South Korean feature films presented at the Cannes this year.
