'S. Korea Against Talks for the Sake of Talks'

Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se says South Korea is against talks for the sake of talks in relation to a North Korean envoy’s remarks expressing the North’s willingness for dialogue.

Yun on Monday told a news briefing that North Korea should show the international community that it's sincere by implementing its obligations and pledges related to denuclearization.

The minister said that the international community has persistently conveyed a consistent and strong message that it condemns North Korean provocations and disapproves the North’s possession of nuclear weapons.

He said the Seoul government is enhancing its diplomatic efforts to ensure that the international community's message will lead to progress on the North Korean nuclear issue and changes in the North.

Yun continued that Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed Beijing's policy of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula during his meeting with the North’s special envoy Choe Ryong-hae. Choe visited Beijing last week where he made the remarks concerning Pyongyang's intent to restart talks.

Yun wrapped up by noting Seoul and Beijing will hold in-depth discussions on the North's nuclear issue during a bilateral summit in late June.
