US, China, Japan Hail Koreas' Moves to Hold Gov't-level Talks

The United States, China and Japan have hailed North Korea’s proposal to hold government-level talks with South Korea and Seoul’s acceptance of the proposal.

U.S. State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters on Thursday that the U.S. government supports and has always supported improved inter-Korean relationships, and will continue its close coordination with its allies and partners in the region.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei said in a news briefing that China welcomes the news that the two Koreas have decided to resume bilateral contact and dialogue.

Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said though he’s not aware of the details, Japan hails efforts by the two Koreas to hold dialogue, adding that such a situation is better than the current state of confrontation the two Koreas are in.
