South Korea's leading fencer Kim Ji-yeon has won gold at the Asian Fencing Championships in Shanghai, China.

Kim beat fellow South Korean Lee Ra-jin 15 to 13 in the final round of the women's individual sabre event to capture the title.

In men's individual epee, Kwon Yeong-jun won silver and Kim Sang-min took bronze.

Shin A-lam was highly touted to medal in the women's epee but lost in the round of 32 to her Taiwanese rival with a score of 15 to 11.
