Gymnast Son Adds to Gold-medal Count at Asian Championships

South Korea’s Son Yeon-jae added to her success at the Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships on Saturday with two more gold medal wins.

Son took first in the women’s hoop final with 18-point-433 points at the event in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, topping her Chinese rival Deng Senyue who scored 18-point-067 points.

The 19-year-old also took gold in the women’s clubs with 18-point-four points. She failed to top the podium in the women’s ribbon, finishing second behind Deng of China.

On the first day of the competition Friday, Son won the individual all-around final at the championships.

She finished with 72-point-066 points at the multi-sport competition made up of the hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon. Uzbekistan's Jamila Rakhmatova came in second with 70-point-599 points.

Son's win Friday was South Korea's first gold at an international rhythmic gymnastics competition.
