Two Koreas to Hold Working-level Meeting at Truce Village on Sunday

North Korea has agreed to South Korea's proposal to hold inter-Korean working-level talks at the truce village of Panmunjeom on Sunday.

A South Korean government official said that the North accepted Seoul's invitation for talks through a telephone hotline in the truce village Saturday morning.

The meeting will take place on the south side of the truce village 10 a.m. Sunday as South Korea proposed to the North. While accepting the invitation, North Korea also said that it will send three director-level officials to the working-level contact.

North Korea experts say the two sides are expected to discuss the possibility of holding ministerial-level talks which the South proposed earlier this week.

The talks on Sunday will mark the first time the two Koreas hold an official governmental meeting since 2011 when their militaries met to discuss issues related to the North's sinking of a South Korean warship and the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island.

Seoul on Friday made its counteroffer to hold working-level inter-Korean talks on the south side of the truce village on Sunday in response to the North's proposal to hold the meeting in Gaeseong, North Korea.

Pyongyang on Thursday offered to hold talks between the two Korea's governments. Later in the day, Seoul made its initial counteroffer to hold a ministerial-level meeting in Seoul on Wednesday next week.
