South Korean companies with factories in the suspended Gaeseong Industrial Complex are calling for the swift resumption of operations as signs emerge an inter-Korean ministerial-level meeting could be held soon.
Company representatives released a statement on Friday and called on the governments to come up with ways to prevent operations from being suspended again. They stressed that the two Koreas should reach an agreement at the much-anticipated ministerial talks to prevent political and diplomatic factors from affecting the operation of the factory park.
Company officials argued on the importance of rebuilding trust with their buyers who terminated contracts amid uncertainty and instability in the inter-Korean joint venture.
While calling for proper compensation due to their disrupted operations, they also demanded the South and North Korean governments allow their staffs to visit facilities in the complex and check on their machines.
